The film photographs selected for the covers of my notebooks hold deep sentimental value for me, as both were captured in Syria, my parents' homeland. The image of the plumeria, known as Fitna in Arabic, is from a tree that has stood for decades in our family home in Latakia - where my parents grew up and where I spent my summers as a child. The coffee shop photograph, taken in Damascus in 2023, represents a poignant milestone as it was my first visit to Syria after losing both my parents.
